Great Food Truck Race Season 4 – Week 1 Recap

SPOILER ALERT: See which team got eliminated below!

Season 4 of The Great Food Truck Race on The Food Network is underway! A new season with 8 new teams ready to compete for $50,000 and their own gourmet food truck! The competitors have no prior experience running a food truck but after they’re done with this race, they’ll be seasoned pros.

Episode 1 starts out with Tyler Florence meeting the new teams just under the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles where all the teams are given their first assignement. Right off the top, Tyler gives them a challenge to sell in one of the smallest cities in the country… Beverly Hills. But the real challenge is that the teams had to sell their dishes for a minimum of $20.

From there, the trucks raced up to San Francisco to set up again and sell their food without price restrictions this time. All in all, it was an exciting start to the new season.

Of course, one team had to be sent home due to low revenue numbers. Here’s a summary of how each truck did financially:

Week 1 Cash Totals

  • Philly’s Finest Sambonis $1321
  • Bowled and the Beautiful $1284
  • Tikka Tikka Taco $1160
  • The Slide Show $860
  • Aloha Plate $812
  • Boardwalk Breakfast Empire $723
  • The Frankfoota Truck $486
  • Murphy’s Spud Truck $420

After a furious battle on the streets, Murphy’s Spud Truck got sent home bringing in only $420 in sales. They also ran into grill problems because they couldn’t get their grill to light. So they had to scramble and offer a salad as their main dish which hurt them. Eventually, Murphy’s Spud Truck got someone from the food truck park they were working in to help with the grill.

Turns out that they couldn’t get their pilot light lit because the valve on their propane tank was closed. A costly mistake that could’ve happened to any new food truck owner! Seven teams are left and they’re off to Portland, Oregon for their next stop!
